Good morning, all! Welcome to the Lounge!  This Lounge is for Teachers Only.

A place to put your feet up, let your hair down, have a chat or a snooze, and just relax.

Take a Deep Breath! Let it out. You are among friends here.

Other than coffee and tea, I'm not really sure what is available in the Lounge today. I worked

at a trade show all weekend, then came home and vegged for a few hours last night, then went to bed.

Still working on recovering restoring my energy this morning, thus the name of the Lounge this morning.

Did you or do you currently work a job that exhausts you physically? Here: I do some part-time security work, plus I work at some Farmers Markets, and this weekend a trade show. All are thoroughly exhausting as I'm on my feet for several hours at a time. I don't really mind because it's only for a day or two at a time. It just take some time to RESTORE that energy. I chose the word "restore" because it implies "to make (like) new" whereas when I think "recovery", I tend to think of someone who's been sick or has had surgery, which doesn't apply to me today.

For the gluten-free folks, if you had to pack a lunch/bag of food that needed to last you most of the day because of work or travel (with no option to stop for food or take a break), what would you pack? Here: I made 'ham sandwich bites': took a slice of deli mozzarella, sliced it in half, dotted on some stoneground mustard, added sliced ham, a bit of lettuce, and rolled those up into bite size pieces. Turned out to be two-bite pieces but it worked. Plus, I added a banana, 2 clementines (which did not get eaten, sad to say), some strawberries and blueberries. All stored in a really nice lunchbag that has zippers for some amazing ice packs.

Who else is doing "alternate school" today? Here: The kids need various acoutrements for their upcoming theater shows. DS's is in just under two weeks!  :w00t: Hmm, maybe I'll just take HIM today. DD's is in four weeks, so she has a little time. But then again, I'd rather just get it DONE. AND, while dd will work on schoolwork if home by herself, DS will not, so there's that. Hmm. Tune in later for details on the next episode of DRAMA MAMAS . . .     :D

Talk to me! :bigear:

Good morning!

I suppose the most exhausting job I've ever had was taking care of my special needs nephew who passed away in February. It was physically hard because he had seizures during his sleep, so I had to sleep in the bed with him and didn't sleep as well as normal because I was really listening for him all night. Also, he was 22, but I had to do so many things for him: bathe him, help him dress, shave him, help in the restroom, etc. It was probably mostly mentally exhausting because he had behavior issues that took a lot of constant interaction to keep them at bay. There were such sweet times, though. He was so funny. He loved for me to sing to him. I miss that the most. He would get the sweetest smile on his face every time. My sister allowed me to help her close the casket and tuck him in after the funeral. I sang his favorite song, His Eye is on the Sparrow, one last time. Now I'm crying!

My nephew had to eat gluten free. When I needed to pack a lunch for him, I usually made chicken salad, fruit, and Lay's potato chips.

No alternate school here, but I did have ds do some stuff orally instead of written. Does that count?

Thank you for doing this, Scrapbook.   I'm tearing up too reading your post about your nephew, Amy.  I'm so sorry for your loss.

Physically demanding jobs?  I worked retail but I was young so I could take being on my feet.  Now I think I'd be sore.  At home though I just painted a room and did a landscaping project that left me really hurting.

My gluten free packed lunches don't consist of much.  Some type of a protein bar and fruit.  Luckily I rarely have to pack lunch. If I had kids to make gf meals for, I'd definitely try harder.

It's just a regular school day but an alternate day would be a nice break from the same old stuff.  I should plan something!!!!

Well, if "alternate school" means no speech therapy today because Celery threw up last night at 9pm or so, and Broccoli threw up at noon or so today, then sure, we're doing "alternate school". But in reality that looked more like cleaning vomit out of the carpet, both last night and this afternoon. Seriously kids, we have barely any carpet at all - why did you both need to throw up right on it??? (I know, I know, it's on the landing you have to cross to get to the bathroom, but still).

Also, our landlord told us on Saturday that we'll have to move out by the end of May because she wants to fix up this house and sell it (it's a duplex that they've neglected for over a decade now, and the layout sucks (not much square footage either), so we're not interested in buying it). So, we'll have to move.

To top things off this morning, a neighbor who lives behind us and up the hill a bit, has two (beautiful) German shepherds that we usually only hear, because they're behind a gated brick wall. Evidently, the gate is broken (or maybe just open), because when I walked by own furball (Sheltie/spitz mix) around the back of our property today, the GSDs started barking and when I looked over, I could see them looking over the second, lower brick wall. Thankfully they didn't decide to jump over, as they easily could have! However, I decided to take the half-mile walk to said neighbor's house (there is no direct route, had to walk down my street, up another, and basically double back on theirs to get to their house) to figure out what's going on. When I got there, there was a car in the driveway and the security screen door was open. I knocked several times, but no answer. Tried the doorbell; didn't work. Called out, "Hello!" to no avail. So I walked back home. I'm already exhausted from work this weekend and was not planning on a walk at 9:30am in the already 80*F heat to deal with this.

When I came back home, I walked towards the back of the property again. Did not see the German shepherds or hear them. Maybe the neighbor got them inside. Hoping said neighbor will also fix the gate!

Luuknam, that's not much time! Here's praying you find new living space soon!

(Sorry about the carpet.)

Legally they had to give us one month warning, and we got 41 days, so, yeah... technically they did us a favor by giving us more time than required.

On the bright side, the COL here isn't that high - we should be able to find something at a manageable price pretty quickly - looking for a short term rental, to have somewhere to live while we decide whether to buy or w/e. I went ahead and scheduled the kids' annual assessments for the week of May 15 because that's the soonest I could get at this point (but, if they're like last year, we'll get them almost a week early, and be done with them by May 15). I'm concerned about possible issues if we leave the district - the Q4 annual reports are due June 23 or so, and districts around here vary in whether they allow parents to administer the annual assessment themselves (our district does). And Celery's triennial is scheduled for late July or so (I haven't gotten an exact date yet), so I kind of want to just get all that over with before moving out of district.

Exhausting Job: I did those annoying surveys at the mall for a while.  I was really good at it, too.  We got paid on commission and some weeks I made over $25/hour.  It was quite exhausting, though, especially days I was just finding people to do the surveys and then letting someone else administer it in the office since I was on my feet constantly those days.

Sandwiches made with gluten free bread, some fruit, and a fruit roll up or Kind bar because sometimes junk is good ;)

Alternate school: We got most of our normal stuff done today, but it was a weird schedule.  Adrian had a dental check-up, then Ani had physical therapy, and then the HVAC guy came and fixed the outside fan on our upstairs unit.

Butter, I'm not sure a Kind bar can be considered "junk", although I don't like the taste of them, personally, so maybe.

I realized this morning that part of my exhaustion comes from not eating a decent breakfast the morning of the job. I need

to make time and prep for that, though, because I don't get to do much more than nibble when I'm on a job like that.

Speaking of gf break, I plan on going to a mid-week Farmers Market this week, since I can't get to the Saturday one anymore. When I'm

working the market, I don't really have any time to walk around.
