tammyw
My daughter is an avid ballerina and loves reading stories about it. She recently read Life In Motion by Misty Copeland and Taking Flight by Michaela DePrince. Any other recommendations?

helena
Here's an old thread I started. Maybe there's something helpful? http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/509203-ballet-studies-resources-for-older-kids-any-ideas/ Another one: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/379963-ive-decided-to-do-a-year-long-study-on-the-orchestra-the-ballet-and-the-opera/ I don't think there's anything here, but it might be worth a look: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/411561-i-did-it-heres-our-year-long-artsy-friday-schedule/ (wow! that schedule brings back good memories!) lanabug
One of my favorites at that age was As the Waltz was Ending. It's about a young ballerina who is in the Vienna Corps de Ballet as WW2 is beginning. It does have some allusion to another girl being raped by German soldiers but I don't remember anything graphic. ETA: This is a true story - I had forgotten that it was autobiographical!Lana Edited February 9, 2016 by lanabug
elysebailey
A fiction book, 'Bunheads' by Sophie Flak is fantastic. Sophie Flak was a professional ballerina herself and wrote of her time in the New York City ballet. Another non fiction I book I loved was The Sugarless Plum by Zippora Karz. I'm currently writing a young adult series about girls who attend ballet school called Dancing Dolls. I love ballet stories!
