Janie
I'm not sure how long to allow for my 7th graders to memorize "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere." Any advice? We just finished "If" by Kipling. I allowed a week per stanza and thought they should have been able to do it much quicker. Anyone? Thanks!

yvonne
We've memorized it. It definitely did not take longer than a month, but my boys are 8 & into that memorizing stage, esp. when it involves a boy poem! We also read a couple of beautifully done picture books of the poem. I think those helped cement the images & stanzas in their heads. Have fun! It's a great poem to learn! yvonne
Snickerdoodle
Wow! That's great. I wish I had some advice for you. My 7yo just memorized Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley and next I'm having him do Invictus by William Ernest Henley. I was wondering if The Wreck of Hesperus was too long for him? My boys love this telling on Librivox. OK, not very helpful but at least you got a thread bump.

vettechmomof2
My daughter memorized it quickly, about 3 days BUT it was because she wanted to. I would probaly go with 2-3 weeks (at the longest)for their age bracket She can quote her favorite authors exactly but ask her to memorize something that she does not feel is necessary and she balks. :tongue_smilie: Good luck. Heather in VA
I'd say 2 weeks. It should definately be doable in that time. Heather
