Karenciavo
If you could briefly state what you think are attributes of a good course that would be great. This is for a student that does well in the sciences, but probably won't pursue a career in that direction, but ya never know so... yeah, rigorous and thorough are good things. Mrs. Readsalot
is working for us. I like how the Chemistry materials come with all the lab equipment you will need. The text is easy to read. Although I think the text alone would have been more difficult to follow without the supplimentation of The Teaching Co DVD's. Mr. Cadulla, on the DVD's, is wonderful. In another post I have listed how I matched the text with the DVD's. These products are not designed to go together so they don't exactly line up. We also tend to look for lab demo's on You Tube. ie we did Boyle's Law this week and this weekend ds has to look for a You Tube demo on the law. There is a wonderful British professor that does each of the elements in seperate You Tubes. They are short, informative an funny at times. Storm Bay
Next year dd is going to do Conceptual Chemistry along with the Chemistry Alive! & Thinkwell Chemistry CD-Roms. She'll be gr 9, so we wanted something not heavy on the math at this point. It looks thorough, and she's going to do AP Chem later as she does want to pursue the sciences. Maura in NY
I was just about to ask the same question, for my son, so I'll be interested to see what answers you get. He did Bio in 9th, a self-designed Environmental Science course this year, to be followed by Chem in 11 and Physics in 12th. Maura
Nissi
We used Apologia Chemistry with Teaching Co. DVDs. I think Apologia's Chemistry course is one of their most rigorous courses.
MamaT
We also used Apologia Chemistry. It worked well for us.
Deanna in TN
I just read that if you want to take the Chemistry CLEP test, you should do both Apologia Chemistry courses. To me, that means that the first one is not all that rigorous.
