iamrachelle
selections for American History. I have a 9 year old DD and 6 year old DS. TIA!
iamom
I'd love to hear the answers to this as well. Those are about the ages of my kiddos and we'll be doing US History next year.

Linda...inOwasso
My first choice hands down would be: The Witch of Blackbird Pond Runner-ups: Johnny Tremain The Sign of the Beaver Caddie Woodlawn And for mom... I highly recommend "The Real Lincoln" (definitely an adult-read) and I loved it! If you've only been taught the saintly side of Honest Abe, this book will help complete the picture. Whenever I study an historical event, I try to get both sides of the story. The winner & loser often have dramatically different views and I enjoy the brain work-out of trying to figure out what "most likely" occurred -- which often lies somewhere in the middle. Enjoy your study!
patchfire
Carry On, Mr. Bowditch. I absolutely loved this book when I was younger and it was extremely gratifying that dd loved it, too! I'd second the titles mentioned above, as well. I'm just now planning for next year (civil war onwards), though.
WTMCassandra
I agree with Johnny Tremain and Carry on, Mr. Bowditch! For nonfiction, I really like the Cornerstones of Freedom series. We also used several Jean Fritz titles.
iamrachelle
Thanks everyone! (I loved The Witch of Blackbird Pond too).
Lovedtodeath
If you lived in... series. The Great Turkey Walk and By the Great Horn Spoon get great reviews with SL and WP users.

Here are our favorites: Naya Nuki Squanto, Friend of the Pilgrims Tree in the Trail Sign of the Beaver And Then What Happened, Paul Revere? Ben and Me Lewis and Clark and Me: A Dog's Tale
