Do I have to use a lawyer to make a will?

We used Rocket Lawyer.  If you have you and dh's name on things, it makes things much simpler.  Look at your car titles, by the way.  A signature there will save a lot of headache.  Also, once one of you passes, if you add niece's name to bank accounts and such, that will also make things easier.

Note:  We did not have to probate the will when my mom died, and I don't expect we will have to when dad dies because he does not now own a house or car, and rents in Assisted Living.  All that's left is bank accounts, and at least one of the children is on all of those.

You do not HAVE to use a lawyer to make a will.
But it really is worthwhile to hire one to do it.
We used a friend who is a family lawyer who deals with estates all the time.
You really really don't want to have a problem with that paperwork!

Lawyers usually have a boilerplate-type document so it's very quick.
Please don't do the popular thing, which is Procrastinate!  😉
