BMW
I am wondering about this... because it's their father's income and he already paid taxes on it... it's just allotted to the children... ??
TwinMominTX
Generally child support is not taxable. It can be considered income for purposes of applying for loans, etc. However, it is my understanding that in some circumstances alimony can be considered taxable. jenn-
Child support is not taxable. Alimony is. I prepared taxes for a major chain for several years.

The payer pays the taxes on the child support, and (usually) the payee pays the taxes on alimony.
Tree House Academy
I have never had to claim our child support.

I suppose it's possible that laws may vary from state to state, but it has not been taxable income for me in NJ or PA in the 9 years I've been receiving it. His father has already paid the taxes on the income, and taxes are/were factored into the cs formula.
LizzyBee
Is there any web site or ??? to confirm? We're just thinking and planning for taxes and this is important... Thanks, Bee You can go to http://www.irs.gov and do a search. The pp's are correct - child support is not taxable to the recipient, but alimony is.
