jboo
My son, a first grader with extremely high verbal skills, has decided that he's really interested in Old English. It seems unlikely, but does anyone have suggestions for books on the subject written for the elementary school set?
almondbutterandjelly
Is King James old enough? If you don't mind Christian context, Abeka has a Primary Bible Reader that has excerpts from the King James Bible and some illustrations. jboo
That is quite interesting! King James is too newfangled to meet my query, but I may wind up ordering that for other purposes. DS is looking for something about the language of the Anglo-Saxons.
Tanaqui
The KJV is written in Early Modern English. There are a number of websites which teach Old English, but I don't know that they're all geared for his age range.
Slache
Mango has Shakespearean. Good luck on your quest!
Lori D.
Ideas in this "Wiki How" article. Look for YouTube videos by Leofwin (and this one), and Old English English lessons by EnglishcHerewulf, and Leornende Eald Englisc. And possibly the book Learn Old English with Leofwin by Mark Love. Here's the book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland in Old English. (:D What about contacting a university with an Anglo-Saxon language learning dept. and seeing if you can hire a college student to Skype-teach your son once a week?
rebcoola
There is a version of the Three Little Pigs mostly written in Old English that is fun. A Triune tale of diminutive swine.

rose
If you're Christian you can also try Wycliffe's Bible and compare it to a more familiar translation.
