Gift ideas for a keen Scout?

Years and years of scouting here.

We often got Christmas gifts that were scout related:

Jet Boil type backpack stove and pan

Pocket Knives

spoon, fork, knife all in one

ENO hammock

Day packs

Nalgene Water bottles

Scout socks  (my boys seemed to go through them!)

Any camping gear, one year sleeping bag fleece liners were a big hit

Most years we got them wind up flashlights (the kind you don't need batteries for)

Tent Lights

Lanterns

How about a copy of The Lone Scout of the Sky.  It's about Charles Lindbergh

Thankyou, I hadn't thought of belt and buckle, nor seen those ones.

I'd love to get him that book too.

Lots of ideas here, thankyou. And I don't know what some of these are so will have to look them up :D

Regarding socks, are yours a part of the uniform? We don't have any specific sock requirements. Unless you mean a particular quality or brand.

I probably should have added in the original post that we are in Australia. So our weather is quite warm.

I have no idea of what to get for my twelve year old son for Christmas. I have begun to think along the lines of Scout equipment - fancy compasses, gps somethings... Any cool suggestions??

Thanks!

I second a good backpack.

We use Christmas to our advantage, lol, for common sense gifts.  What about a lensatic (not sure I spelled that right) compass?  Tableware fits nicely into a stocking.  Sleeping bag and pad are great gifts.

DS likes woodburning.  A flint is a great stocking stuffer as are hiking socks.

I just remembered that I had wanted to get him a blanket for his badges.

Any suggestions on what type to get? Or is there another creative way to keep the badges?

You should pm Margaret in CO, she knows that kind of thing. She mentioned badge blankets and her ds got every merit badge, so she must have made a pretty big blanket!
