AnneBlessedx4
I heard a speaker say there were no home schools in Japan. Having a mind that argues with everything, I had to ask.
gstharr
Your answer is in here somewhere: https://educationinjapan.wordpress.com/homeschooling-afterschooling/legality-of-homeschooling-in-japan/ I imagine hs-ing in Japan is done to decelerate education, unlike here to accelerate.
MercyA
I have some missionary friends who have not only homeschooled in Japan for 20+ years, but have spoken at homeschool conferences there. I believe the speaker you heard was incorrect.
Jean in Newcastle
Homeschooling is legal for expats in Japan. There is a thriving homeschool community there. For Japanese citizens it is a bit more complicated. Elementary school is compulsory. After that, school is not. It is very very unusual for parents to take their kids out of Japanese school after elementary, but that is what happened to my Japanese sister in law. Much later she got their equivalent of a GED. I guess you could say that she was unschooled for jr. high and high school. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
