Not a herb, but GABA has been helpful for me for anxiety. This essential oil blend (non-MLM) has been helpful for me as well. https://www.planttherapy.com/let-it-go?v=119 Also Calm Aid is a lavender-based essential oil product in capsules that's been studied and found effective for anxiety also. St. John's wort is supposed to be good for depression though I haven't tried it myself. You might also look into 5-htp which has been somewhat helpful for me for depression (and quite helpful for sleep). Your body converts it to serotonin. The book "Feeling Good" which is based on cognitive behavioral therapy has been quite helpful for me for depression.
