mamakelly
I'm finally (begrudgingly) starting to plan for next year. What fun or creative things do you have your 4th grader doing? Just looking for some fun things to add to our week.
Momto6inIN
We do "fun" math on Fridays - in 4th grade that's usually Grocery Cart math & Drive Thru Math workbooks. As a break from our IEW lessons, we do some creative writing prompts. DD also likes to do Mind Benders puzzles, she thinks those count as "fun" school work. :)
mamakelly
That a great idea! Currently my ds thinks BA is fun math. I'll have to check out grocery cart math.
reign
The Hands on Equations App is my daughters' current favorite extra. We have also been getting to the guided drawing lessons from Kids Art Hub a lot more recently. Setting up to do the Lego Robin tonight! birchbark
We set aside Fridays for art and baking. We do math, a dictation, and the rest of the day is fun. Sheppard Software geography games; free online. Mark Kistler drawing lessons.
Farrar
You might mine the relaxed math thread (it's pinned on the General Ed Board) for ideas. It's full of math games and supplements - most of them are best for upper elementary. I think that was the year we did Time Travel Math, which we really enjoyed. Alien Math, also from Prufrock, is also cool. I find just having a bin of games and a set game time maybe once a week is good (though we have not been good about this lately... sigh) and around 4th grade was when my kids started to be able to play a lot of the more fun things. Some of the things we have in our educational games bin includes Timeline, Cardline, Bananagrams, Muggins, 24, Concept, Bring Your Own Book... historically accurate
My 4th grader likes Hands On Equations (the physical one, not the app), Detective Club logic books, Balance Benders, board game day (we do this every other week), and science games I download off of Ellen McHenry's page. She's just starting One Hour Mysteries. We do these every T/Th when we have to take school on the road.
