Chanley
We have lots of favorites, but most of the classes at WTMA are upper level classes. You may have more success with this post on the high school board. There are many highly talented teachers at WTMA and lots of threads about them. fourisenough
I asked my daughter today and she said FAVORITE was Expository Writing I with Tom Hummel because of (1) the amazing, fun teacher and (2) the workshop format. Second favorite is Socratic Discussion because the level of interaction is very high.
Wabi Sabi
This is my son's second year taking classes at WTMA. He took ancient history as a 5th grader and really enjoyed it. This year he's taking middle ages history and expository 1 and enjoying them just as much as last year. His writing teacher, Jennifer Roundabush, has been excellent and he thinks that his history teacher, Mattias Caro, is really funny. Our experience with WTMA has been very positive overall, and next year he'll probably continue with the next class in both the writing and history sequence, and maybe add in one of their math classes and/or socratic discussion.
michaeljenn
This is my daughters first year to take a class with the WTM Academy. She is taking Expository Writing 1 with Marquita Hockaday. She has loved it!
madteaparty
DS loves German. He also liked Socratic discussion. He told me today his favorite teacher is his WTMA Algebra 2 AOPS teacher. Even though AOPS is all wrong for us. Because he loves that teacher, he is now auditing that class while we use a different curriculum to actually learn math. Don't do what we do. 🙄 Edited November 15, 2016 by madteaparty
Roadrunner
I think Socratic Dialogue teaches essential middle school skills, namely how to annotate. Our local PS has kids annotate lots of stories and poems, so I am glad we enrolled in this class.
