Is Wordly Wise 3000 something that you have used?  Is it good for those with an already above grade level vocabulary?  We use MCT already.  Also if I used it do I need to start with K level and work up or the grade my child is currently in... or perhaps there is a placement test.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It was too easy when my kids used it many years ago as part of their public charter supplied curriculum. You can look at the below link for the word list by grade level.

My kids prefer Sadlier Oxford vocabulary workshop and we didn't use it at grade level either. They prefer MCT's WWtW to CE. So it's hard to tell what style your child would prefer.

Thanks!  I haven't read too far in the lists from the link you posted, but I did see that in the kindergarten level it has the word bird listed.  Seriously, bird!

Have used the on-line version for a couple of years. love it. Same Words and format, but  Interactive--, words are pronounced, and auto  grading exercises . subscription is for a year.. So you can move to any grade level at any time. regularly 1/2 price sale at homeschoolbuyerscoop.com. With discount, online version is not much more than the book version, if you do a couple of levels per subscription.

We have used it for the past few years and like it. As PP mentioned, you don't have to use it at your child's grade level. You can go through their word lists and pick the level at the appropriate level of difficulty. For e.g. when my DS was in 2nd, we tried WW books 6, 7, 8 and found that he did not know all the words in Book 7. So, we started with that and keep going. We use it more as a vocabulary aid so that he knows various different usages of the words (sometimes, he knows some usages but not all of them).

We had picked up an old copy of WW that we were using with my ds.  It seemed way too easy even at a higher level.  We've started just looking up word lists and asking him what is ____?  If he can easily answer we move on.  If there is a word he doesn't know we make an index card.  Usually we go until we make three new cards.  Then we add then into his deck and we shuffle them.  My husband then just goes through them randomly for a few minutes to review the words.  I think once the deck gets too big (I am sure this will happen sooner rather than later) we'll consider moving these to a Anki system.  So far just having discussions about the word and making the card and reviewing them has been more than enough.
