I'm really looking forward to a road trip with Ds on his way back to school.  I've stopped at the Greenbrier to go to the Art Colony for a glassblowing demonstration, but this time I want to take the plunge and go inside the main hotel.  Any tips for parking or other things to expect?

Thank you!

Thank you for the fyi, I didn't know anything about it.

I called regarding parking, and security, whom I was directed to, was vague.  He said to pull up, and someone would direct me to nearby parking.  My Ds says they'll take one look at our Ford Escape and my clueless face and direct us to park a mile away and walk in.=)  I imagine they have valet parking, but I, embarrassing as it is to admit, really am clueless about that.  Last time, I went straight to the Art Colony shoppes and parked right in front.  My drive-by of the actual hotel was intimidating and there were eerily few cars around and no parking areas/garages visible close by.

My goal is to have a nice lunch with Ds, enjoying the surroundings.  We would both enjoy ourselves, and feel more 'at-home' if we knew what to expect.

The Greenbrier is open. I think the casino and the golf courses might still be closed, but the rest is in good shape. They did have a lot of damage from the floods. It was one of the worst areas hit. The were closed for a couple weeks.

They do have free parking somewhere, but I'd take two $5 bills and give them one to park your car and one when they bring it back and take advantage of the valet parking. The really fancy cars are the ones up front that you will see, but believe me there are all kinds of cars there I'm sure! Don't worry. Plus, the drive up the long entrance is one reason it feels so special to go there. Take advantage of that.

The bunker tour is interesting. I think you need reservations in advance. There is also a daily hotel tour that you could ask about. If you go on their website you can see menus for the restaurants open for lunch. I like Draper's. It's inside the hotel. There is usually a restaurant open in the golf course area but I'm not sure about that after the floods.

The new chapel is supposed to be stunning. The owner had it built so his daughter could get married there. You can also walk around outside and see the outdoor infinity pool and the new tennis stadium they just built. There is a shuttle that runs from the front of the hotel down closer to the courts. The hotel is just fun to walk around.

It used to be a no denim zone, but I think now that might only be in the evenings and the casino now. Most people during the day are pretty casual.

If you haven't been, Lewisburg is a really nice little town. The General Lewis is a neat place to stay and the Stardust Cafe is a great place to have lunch.

Have fun!

This is all so helpful!

Stayed at the General Lewis last year, so quaint and friendly -- I really felt like we stepped back a few years.

Thank you!
