MyBlueLobsters
I have been having 'female issues' for a while now. When I was trying to get pregnant with #3, I was having issues with regularity of Aunt Flo. She would visit anywhere from 3 to 8 weeks apart. After almost a year of trying to get pregnant, I had my hormones checked. My Dr told me that I had almost no estrogen. I ended up getting pregnant (which Dr said was a 'miracle')and had to take hormones during pregnancy because I almost had no progestrone. The fact that I kept the pregnancy was also labled a 'miracle' by my Dr. So fast forward 3.5 years. I still am totally irregular....Aunt Flo comes anywhere from 2 weeks apart to 4 months apart. Some months are extremely light and some are so heavy I can't even leave the house. The other issue is that I still have milk 3.5 years after having my son. I wasn't able to nurse due to DS having a cleft palate, but am still producing milk, I will even leak out sometimes right before Aunt Flo. I went to see a different Dr that wasn't my normal Dr and he checked my hormones and he said everything looked fine. My female instinct says that everything isn't 'fine', but don't know what to ask for. I have an appt on Oct 27th with my Dr to check things out...any suggestions of what to have him look for? I did have one nurse practitioner tell me that she thought I may have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome...but no tests were done to confirm or deny that. Any other thoughts? Oh, I also am getting hot flashes, the heat that starts from the inside and just almost takes you out, makes me sweat up a storm, when that happens, I feel cold to the touch, and almost makes me pass out....which leads me to believe that something is up with my hormones. Any specific things I sould ask him to look for?
MyBlueLobsters
I wanted to add that I'm 29. I looked up 'perimenopuase' and have almost all the symptoms...but I'm too young for that, right?
Kanga
I would reccomend having your thyroid checked. You want a TSH, Free T3, and a Free T4 test. (Most GP's don't do these tests, especially in a young person, or only do TSH - you would have to ask for them). Producing milk when ds1 was 3 was a symptom of an underactive thyroid. I was also told by my endocrinologist that an underactive thyroid can cause early onset menopause.
Lisa in the UP of MI
I wanted to add that I'm 29. I looked up 'perimenopuase' and have almost all the symptoms...but I'm too young for that, right? My brother's girlfriend's family goes through menopause early. Not sure how early, but I know that her sister had her three boys early and closely spaced to be sure that she could have them. She is now 26. I did read a book about nutrition and cycles called Fertility, Cycles, and Nutrition and it addresses the most common fertility and cycle problems. Following the advice in the book has helped me to keep my milk supply up.
MyBlueLobsters
Thanks guys, I know my TSH always tests 'normal' but I don't know if they've checked those other ones....I will ask, thanks!
Kim in Appalachia
my other thought is weight. I hope this doesn't sound rude, it's not meant too. Are you overweight? That can cause lots of problems with your whole system. It can cause PCOS which will mess with your hormones. But I would want my thyroid checked. I have been overweight since 3rd DS was born, but over the last year have lost 40 lbs. I still need to lose about 40 more, but am on my way. I had these issues before I got so overweight though. I was pretty thin right before DS #3. I can see the weight compounding the problem!
Mom2legomaniacs
I don't have knowledge in order to help. But I do think that if you feel like things are not right, then pursue it. Keep going until you find someone that goes the distance to investigate it all until something is found. :grouphug:
gardening momma
I did have one nurse practitioner tell me that she thought I may have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome...but no tests were done to confirm or deny that. That's what I was thinking before you even mentioned it. You should ask to be tested for it.
Peela
I have been overweight since 3rd DS was born, but over the last year have lost 40 lbs. I still need to lose about 40 more, but am on my way. I had these issues before I got so overweight though. I was pretty thin right before DS #3. I can see the weight compounding the problem! The weight gain may also be symptomatic of low thyroid. And PCOS is common with weight gain. If you find your doctors just fob you off telling you that you are ok when you know something is wrong (and I agree with you, something is definitely not in balance in your system) I would go and find a naturopath of Chinese medicine specialist, or homeopath- someone who can come from a different angle with you. There is a lot that can be done in such situations, when doctors just dont know what to do.
