Non-dairy Milk Substitutes

Recommended Posts

I think soy milk is the best substitute, but I don't want my daughter drinking a lot of soy. The chocolate rice milk is much better than the plain or vanilla in my opinion. Another substitute I really like is Vance's Darifree. You can buy it at http://www.allergygrocer.com. Make sure you get the pitcher they recommend if you purchase this.

I personally prefer soy milk. Just had some with my morning cereal in fact:)

Dd prefers rice milk and I prefer that for her. I am not sure where I stand on the estrogen in soy milk connection. I have read convincing arguments on both sides.

Chocolate almond milk is absolutely unbelievable!

My girlfriend's family - who is totally dairy/casein free - use only Goat's milk.

If you want to use non-dairy milk as a protein source, then soy milk would be the best choice. Fortified soy milk has calcium and vitamins added. I think plain tastes fine on cereal, and vanilla is good for drinking.

Other types of milk (nut, oat, rice) do not have much protein. I have just been experimenting with these and so far I like hazelnut milk on cereal, and (heated) chocolate almond milk for drinking.
