Valley Girl
Luuknam mentioned seeing a hole in the homeschool marketplace and suggested The Apocalypse-Schooling Handbook. I'm thinking that instead of school-in-a-box, a zombie apocalypse would require school-in-a-backpack. So what resources would you include in that backpack to educate a well-rounded child? Remember, the resources need to be highly portable and top educational quality. Bonus points if the item can be used for self-defense against the zombie hordes.
Truscifi
A magnifying glass for sure. It could be used for nature studies, and to light torches to deter zombies.
Guest
Various Boy Scout manuals (I've found them at thrift stores) about surviving in the outdoors, like mountaineering and whatnot. Also my old USMC field manuals. I would pack a few literature/poetry anthologies from a few different time periods. Probably not The Complete Works of Shakespeare :) I have a vintage carpentry fundamentals book that could totally be used practically and to teach math. Valley Girl
I have a vintage carpentry fundamentals book that could totally be used practically and to teach math. I like this kind of stuff personally. It would especially helpful for the kid (like mine) who always insists he'll never use what he learns in math.
luuknam
Backyard Ballistics? I haven't read that book, only seen it in the bookstore, but I'm sure it's useful for physics as well as more practical things.
mommaduck
A field guide to plants.
Valley Girl
I'd add an illustrated guide to anatomy. That covers some science/health and will come in handy in medical situations (sure to pop up frequently in an bona fide apocalypse).
