Plaid Dad
My dw loves the song "Don't Bring Lulu." We're wondering what the phrase "then she got the air" means. It's in the second verse. Anyone know?
nancypants
get the air, Informal. a. to be rejected, as by a lover. b. to be dismissed, as by an employer: He had worked only a few days when he got the air. HTH :D

GraciebytheBay
My dh is into Old Time Radio, and he says that it means to get kicked out. He has heard it in several shows.
Robin in Tx
Probably because she was a flapper at a high brow affair. (That's what a smartie is... a flapper). The zulu reference was kinda like the n word back then. He's describing her as wild and unrestrained and offensive to the uptight, formal types... and he'd like to have her for himself :). Robin in Tx
LOL!... Actually, my dad was a young adult during the flapper days, and my mom an adolescent... You'd be suprised how much of their "slang" is still our slang today! :) Robin
