Ms.Ivy
Aw, that's sad. I read his "How to Tutor" book as a young teen and then went out and found some students to begin tutoring, as my first "job." And I use Alpha Phonics with my kids now. He did some good work during his lifetime.

Angie in VA
Now I feel the need to get my hands on Alpha Phonics... sounds like a good man. I think Hunter mentioned something about different versions. I still have a copy of Apha Phonics on my shelf. I've never read How to Tutor. Want to.
Hunter
Hunter, I thought of you when I read the this news. http://www.wnd.com/2015/06/crimes-of-the-educators-author-dies/ :crying: I probably wouldn't have liked his new book that much, but I love How to Tutor, and I think the REVISED Alpha-Phonics is pretty much fool-proof. Revised Alpha-Phonics http://chalcedon.edu/store/item/alpha-phonics-a-primer-for-beginning-readers/ http://www.exodusbooks.com/details.aspx?id=54721 Don Potter's supplements for the revised Alpha-Phonics http://www.donpotter.net/reading_clinic.html Sam Blumenfeld and Ruth Beechick could be a little out there sometimes, but they actually knew how to get students reading and doing basic arithmetic, with nothing but an inexpensive novel-sized paperback. How to Tutor and the Three R's are masterpieces. And all some instructors need to teach the 3R's. http://www.amazon.com/How-To-Tutor-Samuel-Blumenfeld/dp/0941995011 http://www.amazon.com/Three-Rs-Ruth-Beechick/dp/0880620749/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1433351773&sr=1-1&keywords=the+three+r%27s
