Guest
Do you think the Saxon Teacher lessons are helpful for Saxon 87, or should we wait to use them for Algebra and up?
Cottonwood
Are you talking about the Teacher DVDs? We are into Alg 1 and use them and they have been tremendously helpful for DD. Haven't used them before now though.
Mona
Yes, we are using them. My son uses 8/7 and my dd is in 7/6. I help her myself. Having my son be able to watch the DVD lets him keep going at his own pace. I check his lesson practice to make sure he understands the new stuff and then he moves on to the mixed practice. I check that in the evening or the next morning and he can watch the DVD to see the problems he got wrong worked out. It's the only DVD I've seen that will show how to do every single problem. I'm glad we have it.
tmstranger
I think it depends on the student and the teacher. Saxon explains things well in the textbooks, so if your child reads it closely, I don't think the DVDs are necessary yet. Also, if you feel confident enough in your ability to troubleshoot, you don't need them. My DS is doing Algebra 1/2 and he does not always read the lesson well. But, I feel confident enough in my algebra memory to teach him anything that he doesn't understand. Usually, I just read the lesson to him, or have him read the lesson aloud to me, and he realizes his misunderstanding. I would only do the DVDs if you weren't comfortable in your ability to teach the lessons after reviewing them (and for me, I'm sure that time is coming soon!). Rebecca
Love love love Saxon Teacher. It has helped us so much. I use it well before Algebra 1.
SparklyUnicorn
We had them for Algebra 1 and they were helpful. We didn't use them all the time, but it was great when we needed to see something worked out step by step. I wish I had gotten them for Algebra 2 because they are better than the solutions manual. Didn't use it for 8/7. I have and am using 8/7 now. I can't imagine needing it for that, but obviously that will vary from person to person. abaent
YES! 8/7 is one of the harder books in the series. You won't regret it!
Guest
Thank you all. I ended up going with DIVE, but I am not sure we will use them.
Murrayshire
We tried DIVE & Art Reed but the girls are doing better with Saxon Teacher.
FriedClams
We tried DIVE & Art Reed but the girls are doing better with Saxon Teacher. Everyone has their style, so I'd try samples. My kids and I love Art Reed and have used him for algebra 1/2, 1, & 2 with great success.
Nemom
Do the Teacher CD's have a person giving video instruction or are they just something similar to a PowerPoint presentation or audio instructions? Does anyone know where I can view a sample? How do they differ from DIVE? I am trying to decide if I want to get the DIVE dvds or the Teacher CD's. Here is a demo for Algebra 1.........https://www.rainbowresource.com/stdemo1.html. I am kind of wishing I got the Saxon Teacher CD's now instead of DIVE. I may send them back and get the others.

So if all of the answers are worked out on the CD, does a person really need to purchase the solutions?
Suzanne115
We found them very helpful. I would still purchase the solutions because it makes grading quicker. Suzanne
