madteaparty
Now, I really love these. They are my absolute favourite fairytales and I've been waiting for the day we can read these aloud. So I don't want to mess it up. What version delighted you as a read-aloud? I have the Geraldine McCaughrean one, but am not invested in it in any way. The version I read as a child was not a kiddie version and in any event it was in a language DS does not know ;) Thanks all.
Aurelia
We liked the McCaughrean version. I hear the Lang version is good, too, but have no personal experience with it.
Zoo Keeper
My two oldest greatly enjoyed the Lang version. They read it to themselves, but sometimes had to read aloud to me (to practice pacing and expression). We all liked it.

serendipitous journey
We're reading through Lang right now, and A. is enjoying -- it is in our circulation of lunchtime read-alouds.
yvonne
The Illustrated Junior Library edition is our family's favorite. http://www.amazon.com/Arabian-Nights-Illustrated-Junior-Library/dp/044806006X Ours, too. Read it when I was in 5th grade and loved it then. (In fact, we love all the Ill'd Junior Library editions of the classics!)
SilverMoon
I'll add a vote for the Illustrated Junior Library edition. Well-written, rich language, delicious cover.
