Classic Mom
I'm looking for recommendations for a high school level stats/probability book. Any recommendations other than AoPS? It can be a half semester or full year text.. Thanks.
kiana
Looking for AP or just a course?
Classic Mom
Just a course. Also, not LOF.
MarkT
while you are still looking here is a free resource to get started with: http://www.cpm.org/teachers/CCSS_Supplements.htm look for stats
momof2cm
Dd uses The Practice of Statistics by Starnes. This book is used for a AP class but I don't see why it cannot be used for a high school class.
Orthodox6
I lack the knowledge to assess either what level(s) relate to this resource, nor whether the quality is sound. Just a link, then, to a free resource. https://ck12.org/statistics/
Classic Mom
I found two possibilities: Against all Odds - seems to be mostly a video program (some problems) aimed at adults. Chalkdust has a Stats course (DVDs and book).
mumto2
I recently bought an old copy of The Basic Practice of Statistics by David S. Moore for dd used and very cheap. Answers to the odds at back of the book. Can't remember if a thread here recommended it or if I found it some other way. She hasn't started going through it yet but it looks fine. Mom22ns
Dd uses The Practice of Statistics by Starnes. This book is used for a AP class but I don't see why it cannot be used for a high school class. This is what ds is using for AP Stats. He is a non-math guy and he is really enjoying it and finds it very understandable.
swimmermom3
This is what ds is using for AP Stats. He is a non-math guy and he is really enjoying it and finds it very understandable. Same here. It is a very accessible text.
Cosmos
I don't think AOPS even has a statistics program. I don't see it listed under books or classes.
Classic Mom
The AoPs books are called Counting and Probability.
Cosmos
The AoPs books are called Counting and Probability. Ah, I see. Yes, if you're looking for statistics you definitely wouldn't want those. Those books cover combinatorics. Statistics is a totally different branch of mathematics. They only overlap a little bit. Classic Mom
Sorry if I wasn't clear, but we are looking for stats and/or probability. My daughter will be done with pre-calculus and wants to do stats or a course like the AoPS one in probability instead of calculus.
Julie in MN
Life of Fred has a statistics course that's far heftier than their other courses http://lifeoffredmath.com/lof-statistics.php
mamato4
My son's school recommends this site but I don't know if it is a full course or not http://stattrek.com/
MarkT
You can also use Rapid Learning High School Statistics Curriculum. It cost $99 and you won't need a book: https://www.rapidlearningcenter.com/mathematics/introductory-statistics/introductory-statistics.html Have you used this and can recommend it? (It is a learn Statistics in 24 one hour lessons course.)
