Carol in Cal.
I need to find the absolutely quietest refrigerator that exists. And buy it. Does anyone have recommendations for this?
Susan C.
Good luck.... I just bought a new refrigerator, and it is not quiet. But I love it! Most have computers and they hum/beep (mine sounds like "hello" and I tease and say hello back...). and the ice makers are in the door so you hear the ice dropping. See what others say, but I think you may get quiet if you get a lower end basic one (no computer) that consumer reports says is quiet. You can get a month for about $6 but be sure to not go just by ratings, but the reviews as well.
Kalmia
First of all get one without an ice maker! Mine is always making odd filling and clunking noises. http://www.viewpoints.com/expert-reviews/2013/11/04/avoid-noise-in-the-kitchen-with-these-popular-quiet-refrigerators/
plain jane
The one you can leave unplugged. ;)
Guest
GE's snooty brand built in was much quieter than the competing SubZero. At least it was when we did our kitchen remodel. They posted decibel ratings on fridges at the time. We are all about the decibels at our house.
73349
Our Frigidaire is quiet. (We chose not to get the ice-maker set up.)
Carol in Cal.
I should have mentioned--this is a high altitude location where there is danger of pipes freezing, so we have already banned any 'extras' like ice makers or in-door water supplies. If a fridge had any of those we would not hook them up.
Susan C.
I just bought my refrigerator this summer from Lowes. Check the Whirlpool side by side that has the optional ice maker and see if you like it. It looked like a good deal. (Its not the one I got).
