KrissiK
Are there any good book series out there about musicians like Raboff's "Art for Children" series? I just discovered Raboff's series and have been ordering them used on Amazon and love them. But now... I need some musician's books.
KrissiK
Why Beethoven Threw the Stew, by Steven Isserlis ( who is a well-regarded musician himself ). There's a second book as well, but I've forgotten the title. Really excellent and enjoyable books. ETA They're about composers...this might not be what you're looking for ? If so, feel free to ignore :) I meant composers. Yes. Composers. Showing my ignorance here!
basketcase
Lives of the Musicians: Good Times, Bad Times (And What the Neighbors Thought) by Kathleen Krull is well-loved here. My kids find it amusing and read it for fun.
ondreeuh
Makingmusicfun.net has biographies for many composers classicsforkids.com has radio broadcasts for kids that cover biographies and a lot more.
Tranquility7
My kids LOVE the Classical Kids CDs about composers. They tell the stories of different composers and it is amazing what the kids retain from it. Also, the music of that composer is used frequently in the story, so it makes it easy for the child to recognize common pieces by that composer because they remember it as part of the story. PagesandFields
We like the Classical Kids CDs a lot... I just picked up (from a library sale - woot woot) several Opal Wheeler books. I really like them so far, but I haven't even read through them fully yet.

Tracy
We like the Famous Children series, and also the Mike Venezia books.
Roadrunner
There are also Opal Wheeler books on composers. I find them less dry than Venezia books, but it's a personal preference.
