Mommamia
What do you think a 6th grade ps Latin class looks like? My friend just shared that her dc (6th and 9th grade) take Latin in their public school. Now I am wondering what that exactly is.
HomeschoolingHearts&Minds
I took Latin in public high school. What is it you are wondering exactly?
momma2three
There are middle school textbooks for Latin out there. I think Latin for the New Millennium is used by some middle schools.
HomeschoolingHearts&Minds
Are you questioning the fact that it's in public school or the fact that it's 6th grade?
Dmmetler
The ACL Exploratory Latin Exam is for 3rd-6th grade, and covers vocabulary, a little roman history and geography, and some basic translations.
FO4UR
I took Latin in high school. I don't remember what textbook I used, but looking at Wheelocks reminds of the good ole' days. It was a lot of memory work. It was tons of translations. It was also a lot of fun, plenty of mythology, derivative games, hands-on projects....we made mosaics, I sang in Latin for my class, a friend made a paper mache model of Cerberus, etc... We had Latin club, dressed up in Togas and ate Little Caesars Pizza. ( )
stripe
I took Latin in 6th and 7th grade. I clearly remember first declension. That's probably all I remember. I remember my teachers chanting puela, puelae, puelae... and also amo, amas, amat. Here are two 6th grade Latin syllabi: http://www.barrington220.org/page/3030 http://lbaldinites.weebly.com/6th-grade-latin.html
73349
I think it would like like any middle school language class - some culture/history, a good bit of grammar and vocabulary, and the beginnings of conversation/translations. I want to say the school where I used to teach uses Ecce Romani, but I'm not sure.
SilverMoon
I expect it looks like gobs of conjugations and declensions. :)
