Child Name Question - What do you think? How would YOU?

Anise is liquorice flavored. Do people use it as a name? Just curious.

 

Albert Payson Terhune's wife ("The Mistress" in the Sunnybank collie books) did and she pronounced it just like the licorice flavoured herb. Her birth name was Annie and she changed it in adulthood.

 

I am not a fan.

 

I do like "Serenity", but my opinion is biased by the delightful little girl I know with that name. The OP's dd might not like the association with the adult diaper and prefer Seri, Serena, Wren, etc. since she doesn't know our sweet Serenity.

 

I like to start with the idea of giving the child one meaningful and unusual name and one classic name or a name that can reasonably shortened to a classic name.

 

Serenity Jane has a nice flow to it if it's not allusion to some pop culture thingamabob I'm too much of a nerd to know about. ;)

I like it. But then I gave my kids names from Tolkien (not ones casual movie fans would recognize), so I'm pretty liberal about names.

 

I'd follow the child's lead.

I love the name Serenity;  but even if I didn't I wouldn't change the name.  I'd probably just use a nickname instead.

It's not unusual at all to me. I think it's absolutely beautiful. 

 

One of my favorite books was about a woman searching for a spiritual home. She came to live with her Quaker uncle and aunt. Her name was Serenity, and the book is I Take Thee, Serenity.

 

I don't associate it with sci-fi, adult diapers, strippers or anything else. 

 

I do think Ren is a nice nickname.
