KrissiK
Dh and I have been discussing music lessons for the kids and the possibility of getting an electric piano. But we have no idea how to start looking. We want just a plain, basic piano. Doesn't have to have all the instruments and play ready-made music and all that. Anyone have one they recommend? AlmiraGulch
What's your approximate price range? ETA: Ok, since you're looking for basics, I assume you're not looking to break the bank. My husband (who is the Sales Manager and product specialist at a local piano store, and who has been in that business for 20 years and also plays) recommends either a Casio AP250, which runs about $999, or a Casio PX150 which is only about %599. If your price range were higher, he'd go Yamaha, probably Clavinova, but for that price range he says you get really good sound.
Mrs Mungo
We started my dd on a Williams Allegro. It has 88 keys; it has keys that are semi-weighted (there is some specific wording that I don't recall at the moment); it only has one pedal. So, it depends upon your price range and desired features, but it has been a good starter piece for dd (who already plays 2 other instruments). http://m.guitarcenter.com/Item/Default.aspx?itemno=1551911&urx=
emcap
We have the casio mentioned above and it has been great for us. It sounds good and we have had it for a year with no problems so far. It has volume control. I know all electric pianos do, but I have a couple kids that play all day so it deserves to be stated. I'm so glad we didn't get an acoustic one! My sanity wouldn't be intact, I need quiet! Hurray for volume control! Too bad my kids are anti headphones.
DawnM
Costco sells several of them (more online options, only a couple in the store). We have the Yamaha 76 key one and it works great. It is listed as $299. http://www.costco.com/CatalogSearch?storeId=10301&catalogId=10701&langId=-1&keyword=piano
