When do I use the whisk attachment? We've used the paddle attachment for all our batters and icings. They always turn out really well. I know one whisks egg whites for a meringue but what else would the whisk attachment be used for?

I don't have cookie paddles for my mixer so I use the wisk attachment for creaming the butter and sugar and then adding eggs.  I then switch to the dough hook to mix in the flour.  Works well and I don't have to fork over the money for an extra attachment.

I've read that the whisk is for mixes (cakes, banana bread, etc.) and the paddle is for dough.

I use the hook for bread dough. The paddle for general batter like cookie dough. The whisk for frosting (fluffier I think) and egg whites.

I almost never use the whisk. As others have said, it is good for egg whites and cream, but I don't make those often (and my quantities are usually small enough that my cheapo hand mixer works faster). 

 

I use the paddle for most things. The paddle with silicone scrapers on the side works really well.

 

Love the grinder. I really want the pasta roller attachment, but I'm trying to be honest with myself about whether I'd use it enough to justify the cost.
