Night Elf
I've got a recipe for a cake that uses two 8-in. pans. I need to use a 13 x 9. Can I fit this recipe into the 13 x 9 or do I need to change the amount of ingredients?
GailV
There are cake pan conversion charts all over the internet, for example: http://allrecipes.com/howto/cake-pan-size-conversions/ and http://www.joyofbaking.com/PanSizes.html I imagine some types of recipes are easier to convert than others, depending on the ingredients and how they react. zoobie
It will work! Just adjust the time.
plansrme
Awww, come on--you missed an opportunity to use geometry to calculate area and volume??? Cheater! I made my own wedding cake and still have fond memories of calculating the number of cups of batter to use in several different, oddly-sized pans. And yes, that may be the only time I have ever used high school geometry.

I made my own wedding cake and still have fond memories of calculating the number of cups of batter to use in several different, oddly-sized pans. And yes, that may be the only time I have ever used high school geometry. Actually I calculated the square inches and figured out the 13 x 9 had more area. The cake cooked in 30 minutes. It's perfect. Well, it looks good. I haven't yet tasted it.
