Smell then taste it, and if it tastes off don't use it. The worst that will have happened is that it's gone rancid.

No. It probably won't taste right. Chocolate can get pretty nasty-tasting if it sits for too long.

Growing up, my mom almost never had baker's chocolate that was fresh. Just didn't use it often enough. So, it would be flakey, and had that weird tan color, but one you got it mixed in with butter/cream/etc. it tasted fine.

:iagree: Yeah, I don't think chocolate can go bad, in terms of becoming poisonous or anything like that.
