Granny_Weatherwax
DS played in his first high school varsity tennis tournament today. Three rounds of tennis in 40 degree weather with heavy winds. DS and his doubles partner had their first win during the last match of the day. These boys had a challenging first round draw and were paired against boys a foot taller and two years older. It went fast (0-6, 0-6; 25 mins) but the boys kept up their spirits and exhibited excellent sportsmanship. Their second round was played against a pair of similarly talented boys, who were also friendly and good sportsmen. DS and his partner won the first set, lost the second and then lost in an 8-10 third set super tiebreaker. The third round was played with another team of similar talent and DS and his partner really wanted the win. They looked like they had wheels in their shoes, running down every ball and making shots they were missing earlier in the day. They kept at it, cheering for each other and playing their best. They won the first set 6-3. They had an early lead the second set, lost it to be down by 2 and gained it back to tie the set at 6-6. They breezed through the second set tiebreaker with a score of 7-2. Their first win!!!!!!!! This win means so much for both boys. They were slated to play JV and were both moved up to varsity for this particular tournament.

aggieamy
That's fantastic. It's nice to see hard work pay off and see our chldren proud of themselves. I played tennis, very poorly, as a teen but loved it. We've got DD playing tennis now and she's finally doing well enough that she starting to enjoy it. Tita Gidge
Congratulations to both boys on their awesome skills, both on and off the court. Tennis and winds, JV versus Varsity ... sounds like they did a great job overcoming some obstacles. What a way to prove to themselves and to the team that they're worth of that promotion :) Bravo! Danestress
Yay for them and you!! After years of being a Usta tournament tennis mom, I am so enjoying high school tennis - having a team to watch, being allowed to actually cheer instead of having to be stoic, etc. It is so fun, and I am glad your boys are enjoying it. It's a great, if cruel, sport!
