Hair changing color when pregnant?

I've always been a dirty blond. However, this pregnancy my hair is turning red- I mean RED- and each week it gets redder. My roots are still on the darker side but definitely lighter/redder then normal. Then ends are no doubt RED! I've asked several medical professionals and they think I'm nuts and think the pregnancy has nothing to do with it.

I've changed nothing in the last year other then getting pregnant. We now live on well water and it does cause rust stains to the tubs/toilets. We've lived here for over a year and this just started happening in December. I'm the only one with hair changing colors though and that includes my blonde daughter.

Any else have their hair change color when pregnant?

My hair (dirty blonde) turns darker when I'm pregnant and then goes back to my original shade after the baby is born. So when my baby is a few months old you can more clearly see a 2-3 inch section of darker hair that remains that color until it eventually gets cut off a year or two later.

Didn't happen to me, but I have heard of it.

Hair color can change with fluctuating vitamin/mineral levels. Since you're pregnant, you need a higher intake of vitamins/minerals to support your pregnancy, so the hair color change could be due to that. Also, one of the symptoms of extreme protein deficiency is hair color changing to red. I doubt that you have this, as you would have other symptoms as well. But a slight protein deficiency and vitamin/mineral deficiency (due to pregnancy and increased protein/vitamin/mineral needs) could lead to a gradual hair color change.

My hair used to be a much lighter blondish color. My sister has very red hair. My hair has gotten redder with each pregnancy, but it doesn't match hers. My mom asked me if I had colored it when she came up after my baby was born. I barely have time to wash my hair, let alone color it!

My hair got darker with each pregnancy, and didn't change back. I start as a blond before my first and after my third I am now light brown. My hair dresser says she has seen it often.

Mine did the same thing. I went from medium brown before kids to almost black now.

Talk with your hairdresser rather than your doctor. They are the specialists in this area. Mine was able to reassure me that it was completely normal (not necessarily common, but normal).

Yep, after DD#1 was born, I noticed my hair had gotten a lot darker--a dark brown--and it no longer highlights in the summer like it used to. It hasn't turned back, either. Except by a bottle. Instead, DD#1 got the light brown hair that highlights in the summer. Must be nice. ;)

I see my hairdresser next week and was planning on asking her! I'm glad to know I'm not totally crazy though! I hope it stays red- I really like the color!

I don't think it is a protein deficiency- I've been craving red meat like crazy and have been eating more then I ever have. If it isn't red meat, it is lots of other proteins!
