PRTGSw2K
I am lost. She is almost 10, an only child, and VERY shy. She is also into dance. Budget is $15 and if I can order it on Amazon, even better.

Parrothead
Not sure why only child and shy are factors in gift giving. But for a dancer maybe something from this list.
trinchick
I'm an only child, and I get what she was saying. I used to get lots of board games and had no one to play them with. My mom did many, many wonderful things with me when I was growing up, but she was not about to sit down and play a two-hour game of Monopoly. How about an origami book with origami paper; http://www.amazon.com/Absolute-Beginners-Origami-Nick-Robinson/dp/0823000729/ref=sr_1_8?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1355346180&sr=1-8&keywords=origami Or thumbprint art with good paper, markers, and ink pads: http://www.amazon.com/Emberleys-Great-Thumbprint-Drawing-Book/dp/0316789682/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1355345975&sr=1-1&keywords=thumbprint+art Or how about this American Girl "Tear Up this Book" by the author of Wreck this Journal. Would be good paired with markers/art supplies. http://www.amazon.com/Tear-This-Book-American-Library/dp/1584859776/ref=sr_1_11?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1355346279&sr=1-11&keywords=wreck+this+journal

I have an only and we like board games so that didn't compute. Why didn't you play your board games with your friends?
PRTGSw2K
I only mentioned that because I wasn't sure if she would be able to play games with friends. The shy thing was just o describe her personality a bit. Thank you for the suggestions!
happi duck
We always love the Klutz line of books, there are crafts, string games, hair care and more! They are probably sold on Amazon. http://www.klutz.com/
Ghee
Okay. I guess that makes sense. I have an only and we like board games so that didn't compute. Why didn't you play your board games with your friends? Because they didn't play games either? Or the PP didn't like games, since her family didn't play them? We never played board games at home nor did any of my friends ever suggest them on playdates. We were all about the Barbie and the babydolls. OP - does she craft? Friendship bracelet kits are nice. Is she a girl-y girl? A manicure set (with either conservative sheers or flamboyent colors based on her parents leanings...) would go over well. My daughter is 10 and not an only child, but the only girl. She enjoys reading, nail polish but not makeup, would rather die than have her hair done LOL, plays with dolls, makes friendship bracelets....
