Stop-motion animation -- how to do this and what to buy?

Our boys said: They just use a digital camera and Windows Movie Maker (comes free on Microsoft computers. And hours of time.

 

They use about 7 or 8 frames per second. And it takes half the time to take all the pictures, and half the time editing them on the computer.
