michaeljenn
My daughter really enjoys textbooks that she does on her own for history and science. I am looking at Bob Jones and Abeka. I am really leaning toward Bob Jones, because she loves the activity workbook that comes with it. Opinions?? She is a 3rd grader:)
AimeeM
My daughter enjoys textbooks too. Just want to show support to a fellow mommy of a textbook lover (mine hates "living books"). That's all I can offer. I wouldn't touch Bob Jones with a 10 foot pole, but I digress.... :)
Another Lynn
I think BJU science is a very popular choice. I've never looked at their history.... could SOTW not work like a textbook for her? (or maybe she doesn't like it?)
Zebra
We really like Bob Jones science. My dd is a workbook lover as well. We used it last year for 3rd and are using is this year for 4th.
michaeljenn
Aimee... I think I know why you don't like BJU.... but we don't have to talk about it!! LOL Another Lynn... She feels like there is too much info in SOTW and it is confusing to her. I do understand where she is coming from with all the Ancient "stuff" My 6yo son LOVES SOTW and my 17yo loved reading all the volumes several years back... so I know it isn't SOTW itself, just a different personality maybe? Zebra.. Thanks for the feedback. I am assuming you liked the 3rd grade book since you are using it again? :)
mom31257
I vote for BJU over A Beka almost all of the time. Their science is great, and the history is good, too, including social studies as well as history.

I'm really enjoying reading Hillyer's A Child's History of the World aloud to my youngers because it isn't so jam-packed. I think I remember that others have used a workbook from Calvert that goes with it for 4th grade.... but I've never used it.
