Favorite audiobooks for 8-9 year old boys?

Recommended Posts

Hank the Cowdog. We have a tiny library and it has a huge collection of Hank on audio. Silly humor my ds (9) loves it. (Think if Barny Fife from Andy Griffith had been a dog...that's Hank) It is read by the author who uses different voices for different characters and has a silly song in each one. I think the audio is much more entertaining than the books for this series.

My son is reading the Percy Jackson series right now and loves them. I have read the first Percy Jackson and thought it was very captivating. I would save it to read and not just audio. (But maybe it has great sound effects too?)

Bunnicula

Ranger's Apprentice, though there is some violence

Guardians of Ga'hoole

The Great Brain

Redwall, narrated by the author himself, though it does take a little time to get used to his accent

All books read by Jim Dale, such as Emerald Atlas, Harry Potter, Peter Pan and the Starcatchers, Stoneheart Trilogy

Possibly Where the Red Fern Grows, but it has a sensitive ending

Charlie Bone series

DD happens to like books either with an edge or with humor, so I'm thinking some boys might have similar interests.

Thor's Wedding Day.

It's a really funny story. It's also a very well done audio with a full cast.

The Incredible Journey

Another favorite here. My dh wants it for Christmas.

The Enchanted Forest series starting with "Dealing with Dragons"

Another full cast audio. The series will give you over 25 hours of audio listen. We have listened to the complete series 3 times. Eldest has even read it to himself once.
