Mom-ninja.
So how does one get the hull of the seed off in order to eat the seed?
Snickerdoodle
Crack it between your teeth? Or just eat it like we do. I was a big help, right? :tongue_smilie:
thessa516
We just eat it. I do soak them in salt water overnight before seasoning and roasting.
Ellesmere
I'm sorry, I've never removed the hulls. Is it the chewiness? I tried this recipe from Simply Recipes and didn't have any issues just eating them whole since they came out crisp. It was very easy and I liked not having to salt them in the pan. The last step of the recipe notes that you can crack to remove the inner part but the writer felt it was quite unnecessary. MamaAkins
We just eat them. This year, we dehydrated our seeds in our dehydrator for 2 hours before roasting them in the oven. It made them much crispier. Last year, we just roasted them and they were a bit chewy.
Miss Tick
I have a recipe for pumpkin muffins that calls for hulled pumpkin seeds and I buy pepitas at the Mexican grocery. Pepitas are so much larger than the seeds from our pumpkins - it makes me wonder how HUGE the pumpkins must be!
Rosie_0801
I think the pepitas you buy come from a hull-less variety. Rosie
