Pumpkin seeds

I'm sorry, I've never removed the hulls. Is it the chewiness? I tried this recipe from Simply Recipes and didn't have any issues just eating them whole since they came out crisp. It was very easy and I liked not having to salt them in the pan. The last step of the recipe notes that you can crack to remove the inner part but the writer felt it was quite unnecessary.
