We listen frequently to librivox recordings.

My dc loved The Princess and the Goblin.

They also really liked The Wind in the Willows. The gentleman who recorded it used different voices for each character which made it really enjoyable to listen to.

Others we've enjoyed include:

Five Children and It

The Story of Doctor Dolittle

the Thornton Burgess stories

Just so Stories

The Fairyland of Science

Our Island Story

Happy Listening!

My dd has enjoyed Kara Shallenberg's readings of The Secret Garden and This Country of Ours (parts). With Librivox, the quality varies so tremendously--even within a single work! I love the idea of it, but the execution isn't always the greatest....

The Scarlet Pimpernel was hands down the best reader.

All of the rest are good stories with uneven readers. Worth the trouble. They are free :)

I also liked Scaramouche and Captain Blood.

I'm currently listening to War of the Worlds.

I listed recently to White Fang and Call of the Wild, and the short story How to Build a Fire

Some Sherlock Holmes, Father Brown, and Miss Marple

For History I listened to Our Island Story, Story of the Middle Ages, and Dicken's Child's History of England. I liked Our Island Story the most.

My son's favorite has been Wind and the Willows

I listed to Poems Every Child Should Know, and it was just hard to get through. I often download poems I like, though. They'll often have different readers reading the same poem, and it's fun to compare. Jabberwocky, but Alan Davis Drake is fantastic.
