Sun
HSBC has special buys on both of these programs right now. I need to make a decision and get one for DS for this fall. He's already been through the BBC's Dancemat Typing, and he needs something that will take him to full proficiency. I'd love to hear your experiences with either of these programs! :bigear:

momto4kings
I don't know anything about either one, but wanted to add that my boys loved, loved Typing Instructor Deluxe.
Mrs Twain
We are just starting FreeTypingGames.net http://www.freetypinggame.net/play10.asp Various people here recommended it. I tried out the driving game last night. It was pretty fun!
sandra in va
I don't know anything about either one, but wanted to add that my boys loved, loved Typing Instructor Deluxe. :iagree: We've used Typing Instructor (recently) and Typing Pal (with my oldest years ago). The kids love Typing Instructor, I just bought the jr. one for my 8 year old. That said, my older kids did use Typing Pal and learned to type well. I just asked my son (14) and he said he likes Typing Pal better b/c it was simpler to use than the other program. Just another opinion to add into the mix! kemilie
I second Typing Instructor for Kids! My boys play it without being told! :iagree: and I like that you can buy the program and not deal with a subscription based service.
Mandarinmom
My daughter likes this one: http://qwertytown.com/. It is online and cost only $5.00 per YEAR if you purchase from learning.com. But they also give you 30 days free trial without asking for your card number from the site directly.
LinaJ
My daughter likes this one: http://qwertytown.com/. It is online and cost only $5.00 per YEAR if you purchase from learning.com. But they also give you 30 days free trial without asking for your card number from the site directly. So far, qwertytown looks best to me. Downside is that it requires constant internet (in case you want to do something while traveling etc.) Also, I inquired about purchasing and they quoted $100 a year. That's a lot IMO. How do I get leaning.com deal?
OneStepAtATime
I don't know about the other programs mentioned here so I can't speak to those. We HAVE used Typing Pal AND Type to Learn 4. Type to Learn 4 is more fun for a kid, IMHO, but Typing Pal gets it done. DD14 has used both. She admits she had more fun with Type to Learn 4 but feels she is progressing just fine with Typing Pal. DS10 prefers Type to Learn 4. There are games with every lesson and the games are typing games that reinforce whatever the lesson was teaching. You are a secret agent saving important facts by typing well. Kind of corny but honestly both kids liked it. One thing that really helped with Type to Learn 4 was the ability to adjust expectations for speed. Both kids needed to work on accuracy so I was able to adjust the speed down. That way they weren't rushing to beat the speed requirements and picking up bad habits. They were focusing on accuracy. Speed picked up on its own as accuracy increased. I think most programs allow for adjustment of speed/accuracy requirements but maybe I am wrong.
nansk
So far, qwertytown looks best to me. .. Also, I inquired about purchasing and they quoted $100 a year. That's a lot IMO. How do I get leaning.com deal? Interested in this, too. I looked at learning.com just now and it appears to be targeted to school districts? How do we register as a homeschooler? Is there a membership fee for learning.com before we can buy the $5 deal.
