redgal
I'm talking pencils, pencil crayons, markers and crayons for K - which do you prefer and why? DD has the correct grip on whatever she is using but I'm not sure which is better for kindergarten writing and drawing.
FO4UR
If training in proper grip is not an issue, I'd opt for a regular pencil. I use a chunky triangular pencil sometimes, but only to teach grip as a transition between stetro grips and regular pencils.
redgal
Great - thank you! You just cut my supply list in half! :D
Aoife
i never use chunky pencils ect. instead I use rubber grips to teach how to hold and they are reusable :D http://www.amazon.com/The-Pencil-Grip-Crossover-Ergonomic/dp/B001SN8HPI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1344913598&sr=8-2&keywords=pencil+grip
redgal
Oh those are great thank you! Might have to pick a couple of pink ones up just in case - anything pink always motivates her if needed!:D
thundersweet
We use Ticonderoga Laddies. http://www.amazon.com/Ticonderoga-Pencils-Intermediate-Erasers-13304/dp/B001B097KC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1344944645&sr=8-1&keywords=laddie+pencils They are thicker than a regular pencil, and just fit better in your hand. pitterpatter
Regular, but short. DD has better control with crayon-length writing implements. So, I cut her Ticonderogas in two and buy Crayola Pip Squeak markers, etc. Also, keeps her from poking herself in the eye and flipping her pencils onto the floor as much. ETA: Actually, we use these. So, regular-sized, but triangle-shaped. DD has never had a problem holding a pencil, though. I have a problem with buying things that are a little bit different. Don't like status quo. LOL! Dinsfamily
We also use regular pencils with The Pencil Grip for my K'ers. We've only needed the grip for three months at the most. It looks like my next K'er (ds4) won't even need it.
boscopup
I use regular pencils here too.

It makes less for their little hands to control. I'm gonna have to make a stop at Staples this weekend...I think it's our tax free weekend. Thanks for the tip. craftyerin
We are using golf pencils with erasers, as suggested in HWT. Mine also have grippers (either crossover or stetro, depending on kid). I agree with HWT that a shorter pencil fits better in a smaller hand. Oh, and regular crayons. I have never liked fat crayons.

Abigail4476
For some reason I thought this was going to be a fat vs. skinny thread. :D
Aurelia
For some reason I thought this was going to be a fat vs. skinny thread. :D Or a call to vote on your preferred type of peanut butter. We used regular diameter pencils, shortened, and the Pip-Squeak markers. DD never really liked the chunky pencils or crayons.
MissKNG
I never used chunky with the girls.
AdventureMoms
My 4yo uses regular size with no problem. She has a good grip even though she's not officially writing yet.
