mirabillis
Thinking of using IEW for the first time this year. Heard wonderful things about it. We've used WWE 1-3 and thinking of switching to IEW or combinining WWE 4/IEW for 5th grade. Which IEW should I be looking at? What do I need to know or buy or look at to begin? boscopup
You have three main options: 1) SWI (where Pudewa teaches your child every couple weeks, and you help with assignments during that time), with or without TWSS (though I recommend TWSS). This is the route I've taken. 2) Theme book plus TWSS (so you know how to teach the theme book). Lessons are prepared. You just have to teach them. 3) TWSS with your own passages chosen (this is what we'll do after SWI, as I feel pretty confident about teaching it with TWSS for most of the units - he explains it really well). Some people use SWI by itself without watching TWSS. If money is super tight, that's certainly an acceptable option. I think TWSS was worth it though, so I'm really glad I did both. We did WWE 1 and 2 prior to this, and we plan to do WWS in 5th or 6th. I'll use TWSS across curriculum until then, once we finish SWI-A. blessed3x
There is a great Yahoo Support group for IEW that answers a lot of questions. If you join and read through them you will probably find your answer. :-)
Canadianmumof5
Your child can also do an on-line class. They start in 2 weeks and I think there is still room. DS11 did a summer class and in spite of some grumbling, he learned a lot!!!!
mschickie
I would start with SWI-A with or with out TWSS. If you feel comfortable teaching writing you can probably go without the TWSS and just watch the videos along with your child. That is what we will be doing this year.
