s/o IKEA Kitchens

Recommended Posts

We are putting an IKEA kitchen in right now. The plumber is here and talking to my husband and the cabinets are in our living room.

They're having one of their 20% off everything sales until August 19th right now. Love, love, love IKEA kitchens.

We put an IKEA kitchen in our new to us home. I'm thrilled with it. I don't have enough time into it to give you an assessment of how it holds up for us. However, IKEA kitchens have a good reputation for quality. For us we needed affordable, we needed to install ourselves, and I wanted to reduce off-gassing too. But I wouldn't have done IKEA if I had read it wasn't durable or lasting.

We redid the kitchen in our last home with IKEA cabinets. I loved how easy they were to assemble/install. I really like the hinges & drawers (very smooth.) They've held up well for the most part. If I were to do it again, I'd get different doors, though. We got the Stat doors (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80052759/) because they matched the rest of the kitchen and were in our budget. We lived in that house nearly 5 years, and within that time frame, the paint started to chip away on some of the more frequently-used cabinets. :glare: At least they're replaceable. :tongue_smilie: The house we're currently renting has an IKEA kitchen with wooden doors (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00022709/) which are very nice.

I don't have any Ikea experience since we don't have one here. We did our kitchen with unfinished cabinets from Home Depot: http://www.homedepot.com/Kitchen-Cabinets-Cabinet-Hardware-Assembled/h_d1/N-5yc1vZary9/R-202020625/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&storeId=10051&superSkuId=203548833#.UCVUDJ1lQjE

We did it ourselves and it wasn't a terrible experience. Of course, this only works if you're handy. The cabinets cost us less than $1000 and I think the countertop, being laminate, was inexpensive as well.
