  1. My 7 year old really enjoys Lego Friends so she will get a set of those. She will also get some Littlest Pet shop items. Her older brother recently passed down his DS to her so I was going to get her a couple of "girl" games for that.
  2. I am totally freaked out about the bed bug situation going around as well! I was told that Bed, Bath and Beyond sells some type of cinnamon spray that you can spray on your shoes, clothing, etc. They don't like cinnamon I guess? Anyhow, wanted to mention it in case you were looking for something like that. Amazon may also be a good place to look for some type of bed bug repellent.
  3. Words hold meaning. I think perhaps the op is uncomfortable with exactly has happened to the word "homeschooling" and how broad the definition has become. For example, I could say that I "use a classical method" to homeschool but if I only gave my child twaddle to read and never used a history program, I would assume that those who do actually use a classical method would not like me putting an association with the term that is not entirely correct. In my mind I may think what I am doing is "classical" but clearly it is not. But don't I have the right to call what I do at home whatever I want? It just muddies the water. A public school student is a public school student whether at home or at school. I think either option is fine. A "homeschooler" is not public. A person "doing school at home" may be or may not be. Homeschooling is a word that those who follow the "traditonal" method of doing school at home desire to keep to define themselves. For clarification, it does not matter to me how folks choose to educate their children. Each family is unique and what works for one may not work for another. I think charter schools are an excellent option for many who may not be able to afford curriculum or for whatever other reason it just works better for their family.
  4. Congratulations!! Hearing a success story is always encouraging!
  5. The second wrong is the way the OP is going to leave the Keurig on the counter just so the inlaws can see it. She is taunting them. Absolutely nothing wrong with serving non-kcup coffee if that is what you have available. The OP stated that she is making it a point to use up the ones that she has before her inlaws arrive. That is the difference. My inlaws are difficult at times too. TRUST ME!! However, they are the parents of my dh and my kids' grandparents. I would just try to make it so the same incidence could not happen again.
  6. I am not saying what the inlaws did was right. It absolutely was not. However, there is an easy solution to this. Don't put out as many kcups than will be needed over the 4 day stay. Instead of having 100 available, put out 12. I obviously do not know these people personally, but they are her dh's parents. It's coffee. Perhaps in his family everyone shares and shares alike? I know my dh's family likes to be in everyones business while I am very private. Families just function differently and I am just more inclined to give the parents a little grace for this one offense. If it were ME, I would put out the kcups. Putting out fewer kcups is preventative. Not putting them out at all is making a statement.
  7. Clearly they enjoy kcup of they wouldn't have taken so much home! I would just put out a select number of kcups. They are guests in your home and your dh's parents. Plenty of reasons to put out the "good" stuff.:)
  8. :iagree: Two wrongs don't make a right. I never read the original thread, but really?? You are going to lie to them in order to get them back for their stealing?
  9. Churches have bills like everyone else does. Mortgage, electric, gas, insurance, etc. When folks don't give, how are those bills supposed to be paid? My fil pastors a church and sooo many people don't give. I am not saying an amount they have to give, but surely if one is invested in their church they will financially support it in some way? People want lights when they come to the service, they just don't want to help pay for them. Oh, and if there was no air conditioning they would never come back. Guess they think the Lord pipes that in for free? Pray and seek the Lord on this. All anyone can do is what the Lord leads for their family. Some type of financial giving is always better than none. At my fil's church there are members who give $1 each week. It is all they have to give. However, they give it faithfully. I believe the Lord can use that and mulitply it for His good.
  10. All of my kids loved playing with Little People sets. They really are a great toy from about 1 yr on up. My youngest just turned 7 and was ready to get rid of some sets. It was harder on me than her! Anyhow, I put them in our yard sale. The Noah's Ark set went to the sweetest little girl who just loved it so it makes me feel better knowing it is getting played with and not just sitting in my basement.
  11. Is it possible that your husband wants them to come because he is excited to show them the new house? I know now matter how old we get, we often still desire to please our parents and make them proud. Perhaps your dh is very proud of the home the two of you have purchased together and wants his dad to see how well you both have done? I know in-laws and they can be rough! Congratulations on your new home!
  12. The family on this blog recently put in an Ikea kitchen: http://www.housetweaking.com/ Check the 7-20-12 post. There are additional links inside that post that show the process they went through in getting/ordering their Ikea kitchen.
  13. I have always lined my cabinets with that non-skid meshing type of liner. I think that it keeps my plates and glasses from slidding out when a kid get a plate or glass. I use the mesh for plates/glasses and the regular shelf paper on pantry shelves.
