Mom25girls
I bought Vocabulary Workshop sans the Teacher's manual and I can't quite figure out how to pace the units. Could someone please help me? How do you use it on a weekly basis? Thanks in advance, Michele (perplexed and confused)

NittanyJen
I'll get back to you tonight when I'm done putting kiddos in bed. We had a schedule that worked beautifully here.
NittanyJen
Regular Units: Day 1: Definitions Day 2: Completing the Sentence Day 3: Synonyms & Antonyms Day 4: Choosing the Right Word Day 5: Vocabulary in Context 3-Chapter Review Units Day 1: Vocabulary for Comprehension Day 2: Grammar in Context, Two-Word Completions Day 3: Choosing the Right Meaning, Antonyms Day 4: Word Families, Word Associations Day 5: Building with Classical Roots Cumulative Reviews Day 1: Analogies Day 2: Choosing the Right Meaning Day 3: Two-Word Completions Day 4: Enriching Your Vocabulary Day 5: Quiz (I create my own, until the end of the book, where you can use the book's post-test). That schedule worked perfectly for us! Good luck-- we love the VW series, and I loved going through it when I was in school! It is one of the very few relics of PS that I was delighted to find and adopt into homeschooling :D
Trish
I've never seen the teachers manual either. But the chapters seem to fit neatly into a One Chapter Per Week Schedule. Monday it was read over the words and do the first exercise. Then I had them do one exercise per day until the end of the week. Then I'd quiz them on friday or monday. Mom25girls
Thank you so much!!! I wasn't sure if 20 words was excessive for one week. I really appreciate the input and advice! :)Michele
Momling
We've only done the first few chapters of Vocab Workshop A, so I'm no expert... but I've found my daughter knows about half the words to start with, so it's not really 20 brand-new words -- it's more like 10 words she knows and 5 words she's heard but doesn't know precisely what they mean and 5 words she doesn't know. And so 10 new words per week is just fine.
NoPlaceLikeHome
So can you get by without the Teacher Manuals? Are the answers easy to figure and is the TM mostly just and answer key with a schedule?
NittanyJen
Thank you so much!!! I wasn't sure if 20 words was excessive for one week. I really appreciate the input and advice!:)Michele The way your child uses the words over and over in different ways, in context really allows him to get a good sense of all of the words. To a PP: whether or not you need the TM: how good is your vocabulary?

hsmom2011
We spread one unit over 2 weeks (4 days/week), which worked out perfectly for a 36 week schedule. This was for the grade 5 book, I don't know if all levels have the same # of units.
