Old Dominion Heather
Ds is going to be 9 in July and will be entering fourth grade. Math: Singapore 4-5, with challenging word problems and intensive practice Reading: Lots of books from the SOTW Activity Guide suggestions and also the Susan Cooper Dark is Rising series. Grammar: FLL4 when it comes out. Writing: Writing Strands 4 and dictation from whatever he is reading. Handwriting: I'm not sure we will do this. He has very nice handwriting... I want him to switch to all cursive and I think it might go better if I tell him that he can forgo the book. Thoughts? History: SOTW 4... We/ He is excited about this!/ Geography: Map Skills for Today Finish Grade 4 and start grade 5 Science: Real Science 4 Kids: Physics and Teaching Thinking Skills Through Science. Latin: Finish up Latina Christiana 1 Bible: Studying God's Word F Art: At co-op Music: listening to classical Your thoughts are welcome on this! JudoMom
Looks good to me! I'd drop the handwriting book if he doesn't need the practice.
Julie in GA
If you feel he's ready for what you've laid out, then go for it! I would say, however, that you want to be sure he's mature enough to appreciate and understand the Susan Cooper series. With my dc, I wait until 5th or 6th grade to read those. Definitely go for all cursive in 4th grade. Whatever makes this easier is what you should do.
Old Dominion Heather
About Susan Cooper... I think he is up for it. I'm reading Lord of the Rings out loud to both of them at night and he is loving is. He read the Hobbit this summer and is very into "cool fantasy". I am hoping he will love these as much as I do! Liza Q
Skip the hw book and have a great year - you have a great plan!
Lizzie in Ma
I'd ditch the hw book too. Looks a lot like our 4th grade was. I can't believe that was 3 years ago already!
EndsWell
This looks awesome! My DS is also 9 and rising 4th, and this would be advanced for him.
DB in NJ
Looks good, and I'd drop the hw book too. Will you be doing spelling? My 9yo ds is going into 4th, and your plan looks pretty close to mine (except for the Latin. Shhh....don't tell, but we haven't even started it with him yet!).
