JumpedIntoTheDeepEndFirst
Does anyone have any experience with the open univiersity/open courseware from the website Coursera? Stumbled across it on a rabbit trail and I am now intrigued. Thanks! https://www.coursera.org/
Ann@thebeach
I have a friend that just told me about it this week. Her middle school son is taking their computer course right now so I'll hear how they like it when they are done. I'm thinking of the world history course next fall. I'd like to hear more too-seems like a great opportunity.
Trilliums
I was just looking at their courses. Logic started thus week; I am hoping the kids can still get caught up.
Beth in SW WA
Ds16 registered a couple months ago. He is taking the computer science class from Stanford. He watches the videos, does the homework, and will take the final. He loves it although it is mainly review. HTH!
Laura in CA
Someone on the General Board has started a study group for the logic course. A search should find it. The courses look fabulous and I plan to take one next round. I know people IRL who are taking Coursera courses & *love* them.
HodgesSchool
My 13yo son just started the logic class and is enjoying it so far. I'm eager to see how it plays out--and what other people's experiences have been. There are poetry, music, and history classes coming up in the fall and these are of great interest to us. I think I read that the student doesn't receive credit from the university but do they receive any feedback? Are they auditing an actual university course for free? And how does everyone like the courses? Too difficult, too easy, fun, boring, low or high quality? Thanks to everyone for taking the time to answer my multitude of questions! MomatHWTK
We did our first lecture in CS101 today and completed the exercise. That was fun. Children under 13 can't enroll, but DS watched the lecture with me. I think it's good for him to see that college courses are really just classes like any other. Although 20 minutes was a bit long for both of us given the content of the lecture. I need to work on my attention span! I know I had hour long classes back when. :001_huh:
RanchGirl
Thanks for sharing this, my son started CS101 today too and he is loving it so far.

Now I just want everyone to get to the point.
navywife
DD (nearly 15) started the CS101 class this past Monday and said she liked it. She wanted to take this class as another chance of "seeing what is out there" in the world (wrt potential career paths that might interest her.) She's MOST excited about the World Music class coming up, though. LOL

Ds said the Stanford CS 101 class was a breeze. He got 100% for the class. He watched the lectures and I saw him taking notes. He plans to take more.
