  1. i happened upon these free audios... http://itunes.apple.com/us/itunes-u/his-101-history-western-civilization/id413644578 and if you scroll that page towards the bottom, on the left under "more from..." you'll see History 102 Western Civ. that would be a continuation.
  2. Doc Martin was the first series I watched on Netflix. Then I watched Tudors. LOVED them both. Watching Bones now...and Sherlock Holmes. There used to be more more pickings back when Netflix had an agreement with Starz. Hubby used to watch a lot from their offerings. Downton Abbey...fabulous, too.
  3. Google calendar family here, too. I run many various calendars ...homeschool, possible to-dos, preschooler's happenings, hubby's schedule (military), birthdays, holidays, etc. I happily sync to my android based phone as well as my iPad. I'm very much looking forward to the upcoming sync feature with The Well Planned Day, though it isn't a deal breaker for me any longer like I thought it might be. I also have DD15's personal calendar and the homeschool calendar running as a widget on her iGoogle PC desktop. She likes this as it is the home screen when she gets online each day. Happy with Google Calendar.
  4. :lurk5: ooh, hope someone pops in with the answer... this would be a great boon for us here.
  5. oh a coupon code would be LOVELY... have an order i've been "in holding pattern" on and a code would get me to PLACE the order! Please PM me if anyone has one to spare. Greatly appreciated.
  6. i got a 32G iPad 2 (refurb)... to start us off. I was very comfortable buying the refurb since it is fully warranted (and can buy additional warranty from amazon, square trade) i had/have absolutely no need for the "improved retina display" so if/when we want another iPad i'd happily buy an iPad2 again. with cloud storage, iTunes streaming at home, etc. i dont have any issues with size. I have pages and pages of apps on the iPad and still have LOTS and LOTS of space left. However, i do NOT use it for video or camera needs. (i have a phone that is ALWAYS with me, and 2 actual real cameras that one is nearly always with me, too)... But yes, what everyone else said.. buy the biggest you can afford... and look to a refurb to allow your $$ to stretch further (IMO) HTH
  7. wow, i'd do what a previous posters said about requesting removal from facebook as well as contacting the company directly (non-accusatory) and requesting removal. Then, when that family gets that card that was also mentioned in a reply, have them find the issuing company (of the card) and work to contact that card company too. (cease & desist) then, i'd look to getting a lawyer. you need to be watermarking your photos at the very least. If it were me, though... LOL.. i'd be setting myself up for selling my photos and getting royalties! good luck. beautiful pic, btw. :D
  8. I think this might be the article referred to...
  9. yes, things are getting worked out as early-purchasers (for the limited $40 "special) poke around in and and continue to send in "support" emails to their techs. It is sooooo not ready, but they've been completely honest and forthcoming that is is very much still in [upper-end] Beta. I knew this going in, am happy to keep sending support emails... I wanted the lower price (and could have waited till towards the end of July)... but, eh, it's another bit of time-sucking tinkering I get to enjoy. ROFL.
  10. Besides the homemaking screenshots (coming soon) the homeschool reports SAMPLES is what i'm really wanting to see. I'd been stalking their website waiting for more info, LOL, and now that some screenshots are up... well, I. Just. Want. More. I do LOVE the part of the menu, to-do, and shopping to be right there handy. I *thought* i'd read in one of their emails that the online planner was going to be able to sync to Google Calendar. Does anyone else recall that? That was a *huge* eyebrow raise for me as I'd LOVE LOVE that feature!
  11. we use the Terra Nova test... " a more recently published test series than the now-discontinued CAT/5. The TerraNova, first published in 1996, was renormed in 2005. " "We offer the Complete Battery for Kindergarten (Level 10), the Complete Battery Plus for Grade 1 through Grade 12, and the Survey Plus for Grades 2 through 12. These are the most complete, extensive and up-to-date tests available for unrestricted homeschool use." You can probably purchase the test elsewhere but we go through Bayside. If desired, there are some practice tests here, though I've not looked at them myself.
  12. DD (nearly 15) started the CS101 class this past Monday and said she liked it. She wanted to take this class as another chance of "seeing what is out there" in the world (wrt potential career paths that might interest her.) She's MOST excited about the World Music class coming up, though. LOL
  13. At this age I think it is VERY wise to give the student the chance to pick their desired text, even if that means a change later along the way. At least by looking through and comparing them an informed choice was made. That's exactly what I did with my rising 9th grader. She's used Apologia all along so I totally thought she'd have opted to stay with Apologia. But after a very thorough looksie at both Apologia and BJU (3rd edition), she said she wants to give BJU a hardy try. She preferred their "busier" layout over the more plain layout of Apologia. We'll be doing BJU+DIVE bio, his "Exchange of Truth" book, another book he suggested to me, as well as some *FREE* science dvds from Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Many discussions have happened about the bump up in workload and such and... well, she says she's up for the challenge; only time will tell. I know, though, that she was very pleased to have been given the opportunity to make a choice in texts.
  14. if the teacher would go for it, you could easily match up apologia bio with bju bio... if you go to the DIVE website you can see how the syllabus for using DIVE with Apologia totally changes the sequence around. If you look at the syllabus for using DIVE with BJU, it's mostly in order. Working from those two should be hard to put one together that would allow your student to do the labs in the group setting but follow the text, of your choosing. Again, provided the teacher will be on board. HTH

  17. having only seen a bit of the samples, and not wanting to buy it yet without more thought/discussion with hubby.... has anyone yet put together a list of kits that would go along with the book and/or online videos to use instead of their waaay too expensive for our budget supplies? that would be a major concern of ours here. just thought i'd ask, as maybe CPO physical science users have already done this
  18. http://www.childlightusa.org/conference_resources.php http://www.soundword.com/charlottemason.html
  19. i didn't see anywhere on this CPO site how/where to order from them as just a homeschooling family (not in bulk).... I wrote to them a few days ago but haven't heard back. HOld my hand and guide me to/through it please. ;)
  20. Our student has been doing it since the beginning and over time it seems to be fitting us less and less. (in Epsilon book now) But for the life of me I can't figure out how to transition to "something else" given that MUS is so split up vs. how other curricula introduces math concepts. It isn't a matter of "we're doing it wrong" or "just keep plugging along"... really. I have thought about this for quite a while now. I think we are definitely in need of something different. Any input/advise? Any suggestions on what curriculum to move to?
  21. My daughter is 11 and we typically cover two "Shakespeares" a year. She's been listening to the Bard for the last few years on her own. This audio or this audio would be a good start for you. (And they're free) From there (and since my DD is already familiar with the stories, we just go right to this...) I opted to read aloud from Shakespeare Stores I and Shakespeare Stories II (by Leon Garfield). After that, we use the No Fear Shakespeare version of whatever piece we're covering. I LOVE THESE! I buy *one* book for her to use in her hands and I read mine off the computer screen (free!). We read through the whole play over the course of a couple/few weeks, one scene a day. We alternate parts as best as we can. It works REALLY great! We usually read the REAL Shakespeare part side but when it is exceptionally long piece or the language is tough we either read the "modern version" instead or also. While we're studying the play, behind the scenes (on my free time) I am hunting/ reading reviews/ etc locating a DVD version that will be suitable for us to watch together. We're members of Netflix so that makes it easier but there are usually a variety of versions of his plays at the library, too. So once we're partner read the play then we move to the movie, I break that up into a week-worth of watching usually, or if nothing is going on, we'll watch the whole thing at once on a weekend morning/afternoon. As you can see, NOTHING fancy at all, but it works for us. We've not done in formal "analysis" of his work yet, perhaps we'll get to that in highschool level. For now, just having a lovely time getting to know Wm. Shakespeare is a great joy! Oh.. I forgot to mention, I also try to have her memorize a portion of whatever play we're doing, but we're big on memory work here! HTH
