Pam L in Mid Tenn
What text can we use for a full credit of civics? My rising 9th grader is very interested in politics right now and I'd like him to earn a whole credit instead of the half credit required in TN. My others have done "American Government" for a half credit using the book from Great Source. I'm going to be working more hours and will not have time to expand on this text. I'd love a full credit Civics text. Any ideas? Thanks!
MommyThrice
How about HSLDA's on-line Con Law course? My son loved it. They suggested that you award a full credit because of the time required.
Pam L in Mid Tenn
I'm not going to be able to afford to pay for any outsourced classes. I just want a good text to follow.
Lori D.
Not a textbook or exactly a credit, BUT, if DS is highly interested then I recommend direct involvement in politics through one of these programs (which often offer scholarship money for those who can't afford the program fee, and you can often work out carpool for another parent to drive your DS): Tennessee YMCA Center for Civic Engagement: Youth in Government program Model United Nations program Boys State Teen Pact Nashville Network for Youth & Civic Engagement 4-H Citizenship program Junior State of America BEST of luck! Warmly, Lori D.
Pam L in Mid Tenn
Those programs sound wonderful and I will look into them. I still want a textbook as a spine. :) OR How about a list of living books that would count as "civics"?

krisperry
Sonlight 400 is a year long course of Gov't / Civics. Perhaps there is something in their list that would work for you: http://www.sonlight.com/400-00.html

Pam L in Mid Tenn
Ok great! Maybe I'll use the Great Source text that I already have for a semester, and then use some of these links and resources for a second semester worth of work. I also found some things at Christian Book.com that might be worth trying.
bearnpurple
We are doing 1st half of the year with a lapbook from knowledge box on the Presidential election....along with the study of the constitution (clp). 2nd half we are doing Ace (school of tomorrow) civics paces.... It seems to cover quite a bit..... As a precursor, we are doing a 10-week study of the constitution through Hillsdale College (free).... hope this helps
